Hello everyone, my name is Marc Ayres and I’m a UK based black and white photographer working across many genres including portraiture, nude, sport and reportage.

By day, I work as a full-time studio manager / graphic designer for a large publishers, a role that’s sharpened my eye for detail and my appreciation for balance, composition, and storytelling, all skills that naturally flow into my photography.

Photography is a deeply personal art for me. I am colourblind and this gives me a chance to distill a moment down to its raw, timeless essence. I’m drawn to the striking contrasts, textures, and narratives that black and white photography offers, stripping an image down to its essentials.

While I work full time, I do take on photographic projects if they feel like a good fit for both myself and my clients. I’m always looking for the right collaboration, one that resonates with my approach and can benefit from the distinct perspective I bring.

Black and White

I am colourblind, so with black-and-white photography I find a kind of freedom. Without the distraction of color, I get to dive into the essence of a scene, focusing on the raw structure and emotion within it. The details stand out so much more clearly, whether it’s the fur on an animal, the lines of a cityscape, or the soft tones of a portrait. It’s all about mood and form, and how these elements work together to tell a story.

Shooting in black and white allows me to play to my strengths. It gives me a chance to explore depth and contrast in a way that feels intuitive and meaningful. Instead of feeling limited by my colourblindness, I’ve come to see it as a unique perspective, one that influences how I create and experience the world through my lens.

Prints

I produce high quality digital C-Type and wonderful Platinum Palladium prints of my work, so if you see anything you like then please get in touch. A bit of time may be required as these are produced by professional print houses not via a desktop printer but most prints are about a weeks turnaround.

I have been lucky enough to be featured in Model Society magazine with over 40 pages of my work. This came out at the start of 2025 so a nice way to bring in the new year.
